Sketchbook as Sanctuary

I have worked in sketchbooks over the years and have turned to them as a retreat, a sanctuary from the rest of the world. They are a physical place where I can quietly go and ask questions, explore, play, have slow and fascinating conversations, learn and experiment, work things through in my mind and heart and feel held and supported. They are an intimate space for just me to travel within, just another form of a journal. I have worked in vintage books I found at thrift stores, art store sketchbooks and hand bound books full of handmade Nepalese loktah papers. Here is a peek into some of my sketchbooks.
