I love the Japanese wabi sabi philosophy, it has deeply inspired me and my art practice recently. With a rich history within Japanese Zen Buddhism and beautiful qualities like simplicity, spaciousness, depth, earthiness and interconnection, there is so much richness to explore and play with in my art practice.
Wabi sabi is about creating art as a meditation practice and as a spiritual practice, which to me means turning inward, getting quiet and going deep and allowing creativity to flow through us naturally.
I have a new on-demand art class available called Make Wabi Sabi Mixed Media Books where we explore mixed media book making techniques with paper and textiles, slow, intuitive hand stitching, printmaking and mark making with found nature, dripping beeswax, burying books, poetry, scent and more.
