The Raindrops Have Slowed Their Pace

by Emma Freeman

From a quick tumble ending in a splatter

to a meandering float ending in a whisper

feeling their way through the crisp air

a quiet descending journey of fractals

made countless times by their countless ancestors

What if each one was a word?

What might it be?

beautiful intricate silent falling

tumble free ancient tiny

ocean river lake puddle

cycle witness medicine connection

blanket clouds bright cold

 white magical rest soft

How might they begin to drift

into the shape of a poem

as they fall to the ground?

Beautiful tiny witness

Intricate magical cycle

Soft earth rest

Ancient white blanket

Silent cloud connection

or…

Witness ancient silent medicine

falling from soft clouds

blanketing the earth

in intricate, beautiful magic…
